Hello, This set is probably going in the trash, but wonder if you have any ideas as to what went wrong, OR even if it's worth taking in to be repaired (it's too new for me, I wouldn't have a clue) Anyway... I bought this set new in 2/2000. Gave it to some friends in 2003. It's always worked well and had an outstanding picture. I just got a call from them and they said purple lines are now on one side of the screen, and then they started on the other side. I haven't seen it yet, but will take a peek. Any suggestions?

hard to say without a pic.
best guess is a bad degaussing thermistor that magnetised the tube.
easy fix.
