There is a New(it says, anyway) Olympic color combo for sale on ebay, in new jersey. SOMEONE should take a look--the tube may be busted, or just a BAD cataract. Seller says it was NEVER sold!!

I had one of those when I was a kid. The lower right knob on the bottom was called something like true color. It would operate like a tint knob, but it would change the blue somehow. Had a nice picture. I seem to remember 4 knobs down there though.....

Looks like somebody busted the neck on the crt - a quick inrush of air does that to a crt.

Cheers,

Nah, that's just a really bad cataract.
The safety glass should just about fall off.

Is this rare TV month or what? We're finding AMC's, packard bells, now this NIB Olympic comes along? This is great, but whats next???? Look at the photos, you can see some boxes for admiral and zenith. Wonder what else he's got thats NIB?

Someone needs to get it. If you need an excuse just say, well ctc17 bought 50 mystery tvs and hauled them accross the county.

Nice.

He has other "new" items for sale.

I wonder their story? An old warehouse, a hoarder, who knows - nice stuff no less.

The Cleveland area (at least the little town I live in; I don't know about the suburbs) has been "getting skipped" since about the late '90s as far as vintage TVs go. I haven't seen a vintage set here since just after I moved here ten and a half years ago. The closest I have ever come, so far, to seeing "vintage" TVs on the curbs in this neighborhood was, as I said, in 2000 or so, when I saw a 1980-vintage RCA 12" b&w portable just a few yards from my apartment (should have snagged it right there...); then, about five or six years later, I saw a 1978 RCA Colortrak 25" color console on the treelawn in front of someone's house on the next street over from here, and also two console stereos just a couple doors down from me. My latest find, which I snagged as soon as I saw it, was a late-model Sony AM/FM/cassette/60-CD stereo system last year. The radio works, but the CD and cassette don't. I'd love to get this working someday, as I have never had a 60-CD changer before.

That Admiral box says "portable phonograph." There's a compact stereo by Juliette and that green & blue box looks like a phono with speakers.

In fact, the Admiral is in another auction - it's a tube stereo model with a Cobramatic style changer.

If this Olympic TV was never sold or used, I'm wondering how the CRT wound up with such a horrible cataract. Is it possible for these tubes to develop cataracts just from disuse? :scratch2: The set must have been in the box and in storage for some time.

"Someone" IS gonna save that Olympic...

and that Admiral portable phonograph too.

This is very close to my home. Just waiting for the phonograph to end so I can go pick them up together. I wish I knew what and where they were cleaning out. I'd like to pick through what they are trashing too!

I bet the CRT is in mint condition with an easy safety glass removal/cleaning.
