The same friend who gave me the RCA CTC120 asked me to fix this Silvertone Suburbanite B&W console from around '67. He said his Great Grandmother bought it new and that she passed away in '72 and the TV has been sitting usused since then. He said he turned it on several years ago and it played a few minutes before it popped and started smoking. Upon examination, I found a white ceramic cap blown apart with it's guts blown out on the chassis. The circuit breaker is also open and I read about 400 ohms to ground from the output of the circuit breaker. The model is 528.70457 and it's in Sams 996-2. If anyone has a copy of that Sams that I could use or buy, I'd appreciate it. I did check the CRT and it's very strong. I'm sure some of you remember this chassis from when it was new.

I have two of these sets with the same blown cap. I'll get to them this winter, I hope.

There's another large white cap under the AC interlock. It's not blown; but, I'm changing it anyway just to be safe. I don't think my friend would be too happy about another explosion. I also discovered that this set has "instant on", which I plan to disable. It's the type circuit with a diode across the AC switch in order to keep about 1/2 voltage on the filaments when the set is off.

I'm bound to have the Sams...send me your address (again) and I'll mail it.

I think I have the Sams for this set as well, if you don't get it from someone else already.
