A Toshiba C-531 5" set. This one's more cramped inside than my other 5" sets, so while troubleshooting a spread it out for easier access.

It's probably from around 1985. All the ICs are sockets, which is a bit unusual. The horizontal output transistor is connected to the flyback via a thermal fuse crimped to the collector tab which is something I haven't seen before.

I was a little confused with this one for a bit. There are contacts in the AC and DC sockets that close when a plug is inserted. The plug on the first AC lead I tried was slightly too narrow the engage the contact. The contacts in the power switch needed a good clean. This was one of those rare occasions that it was the switch. A lesson not to overlook the simple things. The UHF/VHF switch is very stiff, so far cleaning it hasn't helped. It's a type that I doubt I'll find a replacement for, but it will be irrelevant soon enough.

I still can't take screenshots to save my life. The picture is nice and sharp with plenty of brightness. It looks like it has had a rough past, but I doubt it has seen that many on hours.

This set was evidently popular with TV DXers. It has continuous tuning that can evidently reach a bit above and below the edges of the Australian VHF band. The dial pointer is made of 3 LEDs. These light red when there is no signal and green when it is locked on.
