Hi all,

Visited this recently-completed museum not far from my home. One of the exhibits shows some working TVs from the mid- to late-sixties (see attached photo) playing newscast loops of Vietnam War coverage from the big networks.

Never seen this Zenith before. Can anyone ID, along with the specifics on the Admiral, far right? Thanks, Carl

PS. Very impressive museum to check out in case you're ever traveling on
I-95 between DC and Fredericksburg, VA.

Were they actually working televisions or were they gutted and replaced with plasma TV innards?

The late 50's portable TV on the right was fitted with a modern color TV...that's sad.:thumbsdn:

They were working TVs with CRTs....but yes, I had noted that one set on top should have been a b/w...!

Anyone know what year/model that Zenith was?

(in your best "pissed off drill sargeant voice"), "What! You gutted that TV? Drop and give me twenty!"

The late 1950s B&W portable appears to be a Philco Seventeener. I have about 5 of these. I have just finished restoring one to working condition and am working on a second.

I guess if you wanted to play the TV constantly, you would need to install more modern insides, These have tubes mounted on the PC boards. These would charcoal fairly quickly under constant use.

Top row; left to right:

Sharp 5" B&W, JVC Videosphere, and as Peverett said, a Philco Seventeener.

Bottom row;

Zenith 23" color (appx 1966; early rectangular from Zenith), Early 60s Zenith 23" B&W console, and what appears to be an Admiral or Philco-Ford 23" color set late 60s.

Thanks......yep the one on the far right bottom was an Admiral.

Speaking of Philco, does anyone have any Philcomatic portables for sale, circa 1971-ish?

thanks

I have the exact same 1966 Zenith set, (functional) and just gave away the Admiral set shown (semi-functional).

Not exactly the way I would have set up such a period display, (Panasonic and Chromacolor signs) but better than many I've seen.
