Who Actually had the Best Picture?

Andy must not have seen too many small GE B&W sets from the late 1960s. Some of these had CRTS with the smallest cathodes known to mankind and the tube is always bad.

Others, such as the Portacolor, had large cathodes and and are still almost always good.

My mom had a friend with an Emerson-branded 19-inch set which eventually had only the blue images shown, and it sat in a laundromat, oh it sounded awful too. Her friend also had a Curtis Mathes (a five year old Samsung) with a nasty overcast of green, which replaced the dead Emerson. She's got bad luck somehow, but I think she leaves these sets on when the place closes, they're probably past their MBF.

The hotel I used to work at has a bunch of 2003-'04 Panasonic 25" inchers, but there's always a couple that go bad - a vertically stretched picture; IMO, Panny's going downhill on direct-view and I always hated their base remotes. That hotel also has a couple of Funai (Symphonic) branded sets, which always produced a dull picture no matter how much one tweaks the settings (same goes to many of the Funai-built sets currently sold). We also had a couple of 25-inch Philips-Magnavoxes, which worked beautifully - if the flybacks weren't so bad. Just for fun, when I did work there, the boss, the owners, and I looked for mid-sized sets in local pawn shops, we snagged a couple of multi-system sets - a well travelled JVC and a Samsung "HiTron" (apparently once owned by soldiers at a nearby base). At least these sets replaced the ones in the office, while the ones in the office went to replace the ones that our place sold (for parts).

I had a 25 year old Sony KV-1946R that have developed an irritating red cast to the picture, but chugged away until I donated it; however, a 12-year old KV-27S15 is chugging away in the kitchen, with a good picture ruined by an idiot using 50-foot coax cable to watch programs.
