Wow Doug, super haul!!
That last RCA is exactly like the one I had in the early 80's, I got it from the TV shop I was working for, it had a bad CRT so I bought a rebuilt for it, great picture on that set, I think it was one of RCA's first inline sets and a 114 deg tube.

Nice finds! I agree that it's rare to find two identical TV's, especially consoles, at the same place. The only time I've ever had that happen is when I was given two identical 15" Sony's out of the same house.

I've had a few of those small XL-100's and they are great playing sets.

I don't think I've seen a remote B&W set that is that new. Could this have been one of Zenith's last remote B&W sets?

I'm going to guess the '74 RCA to have a CTC59 chassis in it. I also had a tube RCA with a very similar control layout.

I'd call it a great day! Those consoles were probably mistaken by many folks to be end tables. I guess having a matching pair isn't too far fetched-I recall an aunt/uncle having 2 GTE Sylvania 19" sets in their house, exactly the same. Once I happened upon a pair of identical Stromberg-Carlson radio/phonos at a used furniture store, but one had been gutted. (I bought, and still have, the good one) In that case I guess some repair shop had them.

With the doors closed, they definitely don't look like tv sets. Great finds!!! Clean as heck too, very nice touch to have the paperwork as well.

Nice haul! I'm sure there are still a lot of sets out there in areas like South Holland. It's always neat to see your pictures, especially of the rooms where you found the sets. It's like looking back in time.

There was a Gately's store in Brementowne Mall (159th and Oak Park Ave.) in Tinley Park. I remember going there as a kid, but from what I read on the web, it closed sometime before Christmas 1993.

That really IS a haul! I've never seen that many sets in one estate sale. And it includes a rare RCA XL-100 flat briefcase portable with the 110 degree tube! (Portable for a pro bodybuilder only).

Those were some great finds. That's good to see what the control panel door looks like on that style of CTC-38...I have one sort of like that but no control panel door. That smaller XL-100 I think is the first inline CRT that RCA made.

I'm amazed that you found all of those tube-type sets. I go to a lot of estate sales here and I think I only found 4 tube type TV's this year.

great haul!
when i heard sc100 i thought of the heavy metal glass faced "portable" i got at hamvention last year.
thats not a common set.i think i have seen 2 since i started repairing tv's at the age of 12.
as for those 38's a neighbor has one just like them.about 5 years ago i rebuilt it for her.its still her daily watcher now with a digital box.
she said that everyone asks where she bought that nice tv as they have never seen one in a store.she gets funny looks when she says its probably older than you!

Nice finds Doug... Maybe you could eBay those '38s to somebody looking to start an era-correct vintage appliance store? (Or Display?) It would be weird if they both smoked their flybacks if they were separated!

So add that SC100 to the short list of Space Command sets that could be tuned with a conventional knob, huh?

Two of those houses looked like they could have been the same builder... I really liked the one with the stone on the front... Quads or Tri-levels/ ranches they appear..? I love that design of house... Another thing that has disappeared in today's era of faux-"medieval-castles" with needlessly pointy roofs.

In combing through those earlier pictures, I was wondering what became of the $10 Zenith found in the same location as the Emperor? I know you don't like less-than-mint sets. I have been meaning to come down, and I think I have a plan for the Emperor now!

I'm glad to see you back in the mode of collecting and restoring sets. You did a great many things to save TV history. I'm almost out of room for things to get. Good hooby to have something to tinker during the cold weather.

Wow, that is quite the haul, just like the "old days". I'd like to know the story behind the twins. It's too bad they sold the space command remote with out the set! Oh well, at least you got the set. That has to be rare. Thanks for preserving tv history.

Hey Doug how did those twin RCA's turn out? Did you have a chance to check them out yet? The look pretty clean from what I can see.

I had an RCA set that looked like this one, Mine was a CTC62 IIRC. Had SCRs for horizontal outputs. The green got weak, so it got tossed, though I still have some of the plug in boards from it in a junk box.

It had a push button that had chroma, tint and contrast pre-settings on it.
