I really don't know what to say except that it is a sad commentary on the values and ethics of this generation. I mean, come on, he used just as much energy destroying the thing and then cleaning up his mess (assuming he bothered) as he would have carrying it down two lousy flights of stairs. And let's not forget the light fixture - hope he pulls the fuse first

Hell, I'm 5'4" and I carried two bedroom sets, a rocking chair and two tables (all solid wood) down twelve flights of stairs after Katrina because someone was kind enough to give them to me.

So I assumed the worst and replied, "Please forgive me - I was not aware of your physical limitations. Two flights of stairs would be pushing it for someone in your condition." Now, physical or mental, that's debatable.

That's the problem, that kid smashing the TV doesn't know the value of anything.

I'm 42, raised by a single parent, worked hard and so on, you appreciate the value of things. If I had the space, I'd love to take that TV in. Mom likes the old consoles and God forbid if the 1982 Zenith ever croaks and cannot be fixed, well, there is another to take it's place. It looks like back in the day, it was close to being a high end set.

I was unemployed for a while this year and now I'm working in auto parts, mainly as a delivery driver. Money is still tight. One of the kids I work with was cleaning the store out and there was an old VCR he was going to throw out. He knew I was into electronics so he asked me if I wanted it so I took it home. It works fine, watched Tom Cruise in "Cocktail" the other night. I now have a bedroom VCR, all I need is a universal remote, I'm all set. I'm glad I saved it from the trash. I know in the Bible it say basically we all and this goes for our favorite things too, return to dust, but there is no good reason to destroy something that works or can be repaired.

I wonder how this kid was raised? Did Daddy (or Mommy) buy him everything and when it broke, always got a new one right away? I'm furious. I know I'm at the sunny side of middle age, but even after a hard day at work carrying brake rotors around, being sore, tired, achy and so forth, I could find the energy to clobber this punk and roll around in the dirt with him for what he did. I hope he has a dream one night where a Chromacolor comes along and sucks him in "Poltergeist" style.

I see roundies out here almost weekly for pennies.. they hit the dump.. I see small wood table tops that sell for dirt cheap because no one wants to pay for them.. I just don't get it

I do understand where you're coming from, but I think it is just the thing that some/many people don't value things and would just smash away instead of at least trying to find a use for the thing or find someone who whats it. I wish I could save more than I can but space is limited and so on. Still, I think there are enough people like us out there that are able to go and save such sets. Still I feel good I did save a VCR from death two days ago.
