I think likely because it's such a gradual process as the dust accumulates, that they slowly get used to it without realizing. I was flabbergasted at what cleaning the lenses did to the black levels...I would have expected the clarity increase but man it made a huge difference. My aunt has a 52" RCA set that sort of has this same "foggy" look I had on this set, which was why I just shrugged it off at first as RP CRT's just all looking like crap...Thinking now I'd better go clean her lenses as well....
As much as I wouldn't mind keeping this set, I do think I would rather have a plasma or LCD flat panel, but just cleaning the lenses and readjusting the brightness, contrast, and color got this looking a lot closer to the picture quality I was expecting. I don't think I'll have any problems moving this on craigslist.
