awesome link Andy, glad to see future CRTs.
nice concept tvs!! slick marketingI think the company is on to something here, some tvs are classic for their syle. This looks to be next step, stylish tv design --other than a big crappy black box. -- I hope this technology has a future since perfeced. A lot of people know plasma tecnology has great picture, but no real long term dependability.

Free Sony Trinitron - about that vintage
I have a Sony 17-inch Trinitron from that era that I have owned since new. CRT is good, not a lot of use on the set (no kids, second TV). It has a vertical linearity problem. Even have the complete Sony service manual. Located in Santa Barbara, hasn't been powered in several years. Free to good home, pickup only. Vertical styling with speaker and controls below the tube makes for a nice small footprint for a 17-inch set. I think it is a KV-1722, not certain of the exact model number.
Note "good home" above and the name of this website. Prefer someone with a genuine interest in vintage TVs, not an EBay "flipper". |

Thanks for the link-- I didn't know that LG and Philips were building CRTs like this too. For that matter, I didn't know that LG and Philips were partnering in TV manufacture these days either. By the way, here's the URL for Samsung's "SlimFit" product line: http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/s...hdtv/index.asp |

17" sony trinitron
our first colour TV was the 17" trinitron, guess 72 sounds about right. Mom did well on the market ($50K) and we got the sony and a laser sailboatbefore the rest went into retirement savings. The Sony was only repaired for sound once at a minimal cost, it died a couple of years ago but not the tube it was something else. I guess thirty years was a good deal. One footnote, I have a 32 " sony last year made in California, mom bought the same set year later made in Mexico. The mexico set crapped out in less than 3 years and she is still going strong on her XBR replacement. My 32" just won't die not matter how much my daughter thought we needed a big screen, she's gone, it's never on but the 3B and magnats can sing freely with no commercials

Does anyone have a service manual for the 1969 Sony Trinitron TV's?

I did pick up an RCA 8-something-P4 in military packaging some years back, hoping to stuff it in the most-deserving of my 8-PT flock. Can't decide which one, though... Speaking of our tax dollars at work, betcha all these foreign outfits that have reduced us to just sales and repair (when worth repairing at all) have a sizeable number of U.S.-educated engineers. They get a real deal with you and I paying for much of it! |

The first two Sony Trinitron Televisions for the U.S. market were introduced in late summer of 1968.
The first to go on sale in that year was the KV 7010UA. (not 1966) The second came a few months later, the KV 1210U. I purchased both sets new in early 1969. The Sony KV 9000U was introduced in 1969. Last edited by etype2; 03-20-2010 at 04:32 PM. Reason: additional information |

The manual is complex and in color. Will be happy to give to you, free, from one enthusiast to another. I only ask to be reimbursed for my cost to have it re-produced, with the understanding that you will not re-sell, for profit. Contact me : [email protected] |
