An article about Radio Shack

I miss the old radio shack, lafyette. allied radio and canal and chamber streets in nyc when you could buy parts and fix anything. I still have a radio in nj near me that has a guy who knows what parts are and how they are used. Unfortunately, they don't sell the parts I need and if they do, they are overpriced.

With all this talk about RS, is there anyone out there who ACTUALLY HAD all of the "flavors" of the "flavoradio"? (Those were a cheap 1978-ish AM transistor set that came in a half dozen colors, or "flavors", and were offered in the catalogue and stores for several years.)

I don't have all of the Flavoradios but I do have a couple of them somewhere...it seems like there was an AM-FM model too. Both the AM and AM-FM Flavoradios were sold at least through the mid-late 80's.
I had the battery club card too and the 5-D Cell flashlights.

This is at least the second thread bitching/whining/lamenting about RatShak...They certainly DO bring out strong emotions in us, don't they ?

Not to worry Sandy, Pretty soon I or someone else will go back to FCC bashing for shutting down the analog transmitters. I am old and grumpy and I LIKE IT!

At one of the local ones here, even the recently huge "cable" section is now a shadow of its former self (maybe 1/3 of what it was just a few months ago); I can't really figure out what took its place. Though the cell phone section is predictably large (half a wall, at least), every now and then some back-room "find," sometimes from the Archer/Realistic/Tandy era, will show up on the clearance table for a good price, and for that it's worth stopping in every once in a while.

Yesterday dropped in my local RatShack and they no longer had the parts drawers or pretty much anything else other than cell phones or other big electronics appliances.... No wifi coax connecters.

Wow, you have an actual Radio Shack that has neither "radio" nor "shack" in its inventory anymore. If I find one of those here, I will gladly tell the manager why it will be my last visit to his or her store, and how I plan to give the same suggestion to the numerous friends I have who are always looking to me for advice on tech equipment decisions.

What I did have here a few years ago, though, was a Walgreens Drug Store that did not sell drugs (it had no pharmacy). They had a number in the phone book for "prescriptions", but it went to another store. I found out the hard way.
