I lost my left index finger nail to a late 1950's Magnavox stereo console. I had my fingers under the wheels on one side, let it down, and my helper dropped his end. My end slammed my finger beautifully.
I have never seen one of these big wide-screen RCA's like you have in person, just in the catalog. How different was the chassis?

That is the coolest looking modern RCA I have seen.
I expect it was worth the trouble but personally, I would rather have my toenail back.
Seems like Charles has so many projects happening that I wonder if he is really two or three men posing as one! Charles, Are you one of those men who only sleeps like 3 or 4 hours a night? I would like to know if you are into healthy eating too? I just wonder because I am considering trying to eat more raw foods. The biggest surprise from this thread is for me to see undeveloped land near L.A.!

Dr Ido said 4:3 CRTs are starting to "die" in Australia- isn't this a somewhat short life? I don't think the CRTs made in the last several years are anywhere as good as the ones from the Roundie/Early rectangular age...Or is it just me ?

I lost my right middle fingernail when I moved in January. My 60's Frigidaire Flair stove did it to me. I got it down (it sits on a base) to put it on the hand truck. I lifted and twisted it to get it on the hand truck. The oven door unlatched, opened with a bang and a lot of pain for me. My finger was smashed between the door and the oven. I was sayin sweet mary jane for a few minutes.
This is like the stove Samantha Stevens used in the TV show Bewitched. She would twitch her nose or snap her fingers and the oven door would open and close. Pretty handy when you have two hands full of a dish that you would like to bake. It is said that the same model was used in I dream of Jeannie. polaraman

I have noticed that pretty much every recent (silver) 51cm set regardless of brand/chassis uses the same Hitachi CRT and every 34cm set uses the same Orinco CRT. I've yet to work on any of 16:9 CRT set, so I have no idea what they are like. I one comes my way for free I'll play with, but right now they are still bringing AU$20 to AU$50 dead.

CRT TVs with the 16":9 aspect ratio show up periodically (pretty regularly) in the wholesale places her in Hong Kong. There is one model I've seen a few times that I've been tempted to get, because it has thick strips of real wood across the top and bottom, giving it a "classy, executive" look. Would like to have one as a TV just for the appearance, but I don't have any place to put it, so I reluctantly pass each time I see one. Also, I think it is an Aiwa, and they don't have the best reputation for quality. Most of the TVs in these places end up being shipped off to Africa (some to Afghanistan), just like the audio gear.
