Back around 1960, my parents were building their house, and the 2nd floor wasn't quite complete yet. So my father used a big belt driven fan mounted in a window on the 2nd floor to exhaust hot air out of the house during the summer. Seen it in the basement lately, looked like something meant for factories.

i had a porta-cool in my bedroom back in the late seventys and it was still working when i sold it in the eightys. best i can remember it was a great cooling a/c. steve
