you can replace that diode pack with just about any pair of modern general purpose silicon diodes.

That's what I figured andy. I tried going to some of the older shops, but the repair guys there just laughed and told me to shitcan it
I picked up a modern version of that diode pack today. I'll give it a shot sometime tomowrrow and see how it goes.

Got my resistors and PD diode pack back in the set. with some horizontal hold tweaking we've got a good bright picture! Other than that I haven't done much in the way of adjustments.
There is NO color sync. The color killer either makes color bars or nothing at all. THe 3.58 oscillator tube is brand new. I'm not great at color troubleshooting, I've mostly worked on B&W sets. Where do i start with this one?

HA! I win!
The set is working beautifully now. It seems that while I was resoldering the tube sockets, a small amount of solder dripped onto two pins of the burst amp between the Plate and Cathode. This kept color sync pulses from reaching the 3.58 oscillator. Cleaned the short up, touched up the reactance coil, and we have color!
I then adjusted the vert height and linery, AGC, Greyscale, drives, and convergence. This thing puts out a good picture for a base model set. Its a shame the volume pot is trash. It may not be the best build quality, but the results are good, and I learned a few things on the way. The screen shot was taken from KSWB san diego, 20 miles east of the station and without an antenna. The tuner in this set is fairly good.

I need to get the Curtis Mathis that I have that seems to have a good flyback (has raster) and re-soldier all of its connections.
I do remember that I also had to re-soldier the connections to the vertical osc/output tube before I saw any vertical deflection-just as in your set. |
