Our Rat Shack sells two types of cleaner... Tuner Cleaner & Color TV Tuner Cleaner. They both contain a lubricant. The Color TV Tuner Cleaner cost a buck more than the regular tuner cleaner.

I thought maybe the one for color tv contained R, G, and B dyes to bring the color in the set back to life but it seems the ingredients are the same on the can.

I have used Deoxit or Rid-Ox on this kind of corrosion on automotive connectors and it works pretty well--particularly if you can use a small round stiff bristled brush to work it into the contacts.

I spray a little deoxit on light bulb bases before installing them in outdoor fixtures - makes 'em easy to remove when they have burned out and would have corroded in place.

Seriously, I've used the Radio Shack product for the past four years with consistently excellent results. I've only recently switched to Deoxit because everyone here is always raving about it. I find it interesting that the Radio Shack product has a unique "boiling effect" immediately upon application, almost like a violent evaporation that tends to foam up momentarily inside the control. I wonder if that improves coverage - the Deoxit just sprays in like WD40 (oops, did I actually say WD-40 in this thread?? ) Maybe it's just me, but they both seem to do a great job - never a problem with either one...

I can't say who it is, because I might make somebody wind up in prison.... But I was able to buy a few cans of illegal stuff at a Los Angeles electronics store. They had the cans still in stock when the new laws came up, and they just put the good stuff in the back. Same for some KONDAR auto paint primer that I recently got

So the moral of the story is; Go to your local store wearing a Ronald Reagan T-shirt, and ask if they might be able to cough up some "real" contact cleaner...
