For the Oliver Stone movie, JFK, I rented a 21" Rd. Screen RCA color-supposedly like Oswald had in his rooming house apt. Also, a 23" Zenith B/W metal table model set used in New Orleans filming. They paid me well and I still have the sets!

The name of the movie slips me now. But, there was a true story told of an immigrant family to the US. In one segment, the two older brothers tried going into the appliance business, then into selling new tv sets. The business burned down. There were some great shots of actual working Tv's by GE, including the famous "locomotive" set, Bendix, The RCA "Aniversery"set, Some 10" Admirals, and more, The dummy set they used by the family, obviously not really working, is a 10" console Admiral.
Also, on one program of the Andy Griffith show where Andy gets bed ridden sick, they take a 1950 16" round Admiral to his room. In a scarce farce starring Hans Conreid, in the movie "The Twonkie", they used a 21" rectangular bakelite cased Admiral on a metal stand. Love these od movies...... Bill Cahill

Bill, The name of the film is "Avalon." I believe Harry Poster supplied several of the sets. Here's the IMDb info on this film: Avalon (1990) http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0099073/?...c=2;ft=20;fm=1 -Steve D.

Thanks. I appreciate it. Apparently, Harry old boy had several working, because I even recognized how lousy the picture looked on the 10"Bendix. I had that model with a good picture tube, and after re building, showed just as lousy a picture. It was a cheap set. The horiz. out. doubled as a damper. they used a 5V4 for the low voltage rectifier. Real cheap set. 3 video I Fls. low grade set. 4" x6" speaker in a console cabinet that was paper thin, though real wood.
Thanks for the reminder. Bill

Also, in "That Thing You Do," one of the characters' family owns an appliance store. When their first song is on the radio, the kids run around the store and turn on all the radios. I'll bet there are some old TVs to be seen, too. The fourth photo shows part of the appliance showroom; no TVs, but I happen to own one of those RCA chairs. FREQUENCY w/Dennis Quaid
The movie FREQUENCY with Dennis Quaid from 1999 had a 64 or 65 Zenith roundie in it. There were several good shots of it operating. There were also a lot of other vintage sets in the movie. And for the HAM operators, there's an old radio that they talk on... showing the tubes glowing nice and bright.
The story line is great, passing back and forth between 1969 and 1999 via the ham radio. If you haven't seen this one, pick it up next time you're at the rental place. It's certainly worth watching.
