Yes..it IS HOT. BUT...I would NOT pass it up...if it came my way, just because it was hot.

I don't let a hot chassis deter me. I treat them with the same degree of respect that I do anything else, when it comes to precautions against electric shock.

I have several sets that have hot chassis design. That set uses the last of the RCA B/W tube designs.
I have a 19/20" RCA portable, that has the same main board, from about the same time.
I see the set shown, uses the same type damper tube as the last of the portable tube color sets.

I like hot chassis designs. Minimalist designs. I'm just aware of the possible hazards, and take the appropriate cautions.

Maybe the absolute last use of the "New Vista" name? But I would guess a solid state tuner? Just a great transition set; I like stuff like this.

Look again at the tube layout chart--appears to use at least a NUVISTOR n the tuner and I THINK another tube.
