I would certainly save the "genuine" GE, the 'AA'/'AB'/'AC' one in the picture....It's small enough to save from the dump and think about it, it's an American made set, with an American made CRT..How many CRTs built in USA are really going to be out there in 20 years? No one is rebuilding anything, not that they'd ever rebuild an inline-gun CRT like the one in that GE..But still. I always save portables..too easy! Consoles, I understand not being able to salvage .

Ok, will grnt the upper left one amnesty.
The other 2 I will gut and save the chassis/knobs/tuners for a while yet. Space here is beginning to become an issue

I don't know if the lower right one is worth saving that stuff from, it's just a plain-Jane RCA CTC136 chassis.

Griplet I set gets amnesty! I fed more solder into those 13" AA thru AC sets than I care to remember. But they really did look great when all done! I just dropped a woody-plastic 1987 Thomsen GE 25" with a CTC149 chassis (built in Indy?) off at Habitat Restore. i would have dropped at waste center but it looked too good
![]() BTW Ditto on most of the GE comments as I worked for some GE dealers 1979-86 - I liked late 60s sets chassis with KC-KD-KE the most because they were mostly tube sets but the tuners were not so great.

FYI, most VHF tuners have a dual-gate MOSFET for a mixer and RF amp. I've got a ham buddy that harvests the MOSFETs from VHF manual tuners from the 70's - he uses them in his ham gear repairs - they are apparently useable at all VHF frequencies, and he appreciates the ferrite beads in the tuners as well. I dunno if there are any other uses for the VHF tuners.
I remember when the continuous tune UHF tuners were all the rage - by modifying the plates, the tuners could tune in above 1 GHZ, and still produce a 45-55 MHz IF output. I guess the varactor tuners ended that rage. The varactor tuners from Zenith were sought after for cable descramblers - some Hotel/motel sets had the hardware to do Suppressed Sine decoding. PTS required a hefty dud fee on those, I recall. We serviced some that were used in Navy barracks, but didn't use the SSI decoding, as our cable system used an addressed system. Cheers,
