Good morning to all,

to answer Bob's question, you may use a VHS recording, but it would only kinda work, as it would probably show "flag waving" on the top of the test pattern (or everything else played). All of this is caused IIRC by a time constant in the Horizontal system and it's not really easy to solve this matter.

If your DVD player does not incorporate a RF output, you can always employ an external RF modulator, it's a (usually) self powered small box in which you enter with your video & audio coming from the DVD player and from the output you get a signal which is just what is required to play our old TV sets.
