That looks just like the US Holiday model. Mine was transported in one piece, upright in the passenger seat of a pickup without harm.

As Eric wrote, the CRT base is metal and fairly sturdy.

If you really feel the need, the top does come off but you'll need some tools. First, take the back off and slide the chassis until you can reach the CRT cables. Two bundled cables pull out of chassis sockets. Another is a single wire for the video signal and pulls off a PCB stake.

The final one is the HV anode lead. That's a bit tricky. You need to pop the top off the flyback cage and carefully pull the 1B3 rectifier tube up out of it's socket a bit. That will expose the anode lead and allow you to pull it out.

Finally, remove the screw on the CRT base and gently pull the CRT off the chassis.

I would transport it upright in the back seat with the seat belt strategically placed across it. If you were really concerned, pile some pillows between the set and the back of the front seat. From what I've seen there really isn't anything that can't take a ride in a car. You just don't want it to fall face forward in the event of a serious panic stop.

That seems to be most likely what I will do.

I am very happy to inform you all that I made the trip and the TV arrived safe today at my home - even better, it is in perfect working order! As soon as I have a chance to take pictures of the TV working I will do it and post the pictures here, I probably will also shoot a video and post it on YouTube.

Here's a picture and a video of the TV working - it no longer has the back cover and the antenna wire inside is kinda damaged, but with some tweaking I could get this reasonable sign from a DVD player:

Excellent. Has that set already been restored? It even has pretty good linearity, not always easy with Predictas.

Yes, the set was restored by the previous owner, who is a TV collector himself.
