My First Vintage TV-RCA 6-T-86 w/ 16GP4

Hey, I got one of those. Mine was "upgraded" to use a 20CP4. I have most of the parts to convert it back to a 16GP4. THe only thing I have to make a new wood surround around the crt. So far, all I have rebuilt is the radio. Sounds very good. Drop in a new matched pair of 6V6's and it'll sound great. Rubber grommets around the speaker mountting screws. Replace those along with the other rubber parts in the radio/phonos.

Have you re capped set yet? This set uses a number of nasty black beauties that may go bang!
Also, the way the audio is wired, you can do other dammage. They have B+ going through a coupling cap going into radio chassis.
That set has a number of 1KV caps you will need to replace, including in hv cage.
630 v will not hold up long due to high pulse.
There are a number of worrisome areas in these series of chassis.
Poo connections on yoke socket.
Bad yokes.
Bad flybacks.
Bad cathode bypass resistor on horizontal output tube.
A large number of off value resistors, and, leaky mica caps in sync, and, horizontal oscilator.
The ones in i f section don't seem to fail as often.
Later versions used precision disc caps instead, anyway.
However, the micas in horizontal, and, sync circuits are still prone to failure.

Take not that the the tube charts are the same, minus, of course, the audio, there are differences in some circuit designs.
Plus, example, on my 6T84 they still use a 6AV6, but, it's used in agc instead of audio.
When workiing properly, they play well, but, they do have manny issues. Just wanted to tell you.
That is also about one of the worst tuners RCA made.

hay sandy ,im allready past that point,i have path's in my basement leading room's that are full of radio's tv's and other electronic's ,that's why when i show pic's i try not to show how much iv pack ratted away . thats another reason im thinking about selling the predicta i picked up comming home from church a few sundays ago for 20.00 i need room or my wife is going to through me out. and i sold my camper this year yick's.
