couple more things, its still slightly off center, much better with the replacement transistor but still not right. I notice it the most when using one of the different zoom levels from the converter box that allows for less than full screen view.
I have the correct transistor on the way (as oppposed to a NPN that I just had on hand).
Other things I plan to do is replace the 2 100k resistors on the AFC diodes. they are spec at 100k 5% actual values (tested in circuit so not sure if this is accurate, need to look over the schematic again) 112 and 117 so pretty close match, but I will replace anyway with some match ones that are 100.
AND will go ahead and replace the two AFC diodes.
again this is more just an exercise in cause and effect than any actual needed repair as I suspect it may be working within allowable tolerances.
