In my own family, we missed the whole tube color generation. My mom’s parents had a XL-100 console from about ’72 or so. My dad’s mom got a Zenith 4 tube hybrid console, after her b&w console went out. Which was amazing in it self, as she always said she had no use for color TVs, dishwashers, automatic transmissions and swore by her wringer washer. Once she got the Zenith (which I luckily still have), she loved it and even became a Cubs fan. Another amazing feat as she never had any use for the Cubs or for that matter any TV sports before she had color TV. We got our first color set in ’77 along with my aunt, and they were both Zenith CCIIs consoles.
