You should be able to connect cable to this set and receive analog cable channels 2-13. A cable box or cable ready VCR would be needed to receive the higher channels.

Speaking of the Panasonic built GE's, does anyone remember those mid '80's 25" GE's, both console and table models, that used a Panasonic chassis? This was the chassis that used the TLF14423F flyback that was almost always bad. The CRT's were not great, either.

The last time I saw one was as a console at a thrift a couple of years ago (the thrift was there for maybe a few months and then closed up shop, had a LOT of decent stuff, instead of the usual clothes and baby crap). That set worked well, but that tube was really dim. I think a friend of a friend also had a table model from the same era several years ago, but that GE is probably gone by now.

Any idea why it only recevies 2-13 on cable?

Does this TV have some sort of switch for Cable or Over-The-Air tuner? If not it probably only has an over-the-air tuner, which is 2-13 VHF and 14+ UHF. 2-13 VHF are the same on Cable as OTA, but 14+ do not match cable at all. As said you would need a Cable tuner of some kind for those, for which any old VCR will do nicely.

Ah, I see. No it doesn't have any cable/antenna switch it's just got coax jack for vhf and the 2 screw terminals for UHF. Cable comes in beautifuly with this TV. I just wish the cable system here in the US would have used the same frequencies used for both VHF and UHF. I guess no one would have built the cable box if this was the case.

There is/was some overlap, cable channels 66 to 78 are in the same spectrum (approx) as over the air UHF channels 14 to 27. But many cable systems are going digital, so you may not find anything watchable there.

Well, I doubt this place (dorm lounge) is getting their cable updated any time soon. I just use DTV box at home.
