Das Ende indeed. Some guys on the web seem to be experimenting with ATSC DX but I doubt my trust 'Zenith' converter will do much good with that hobby.
As for the pocket TV: Well, thanks for the years of great performance, old friend. Now get inside and tether yourself to my converter box before I toss you out with the trash!

I am going to keep my Panasonic CT-101 (1.5 inch color crt) until they pry it from my shaky hands. Besides I am lucky, Comcast is so bad in my area that I can pick up many cable only stations on my portables with scan tuning because of signal leakage.

Digital TV DXing is alive and well. The big threat to it, though, is the "white space" (I think) proposal for yet more broadband-data-service stuff.

I bet the next step is to push everyone to go to dish, or cable to free up more space. Along with that will go Fm radio.

About the only TVs I have that really will be "dead" after Feb are the Philco Safari, & those 8" RCA portable sets of 1956-57...They have no way to hook up outside antenna to them, at least not easily...

I am noticing something interesting in this mad dash to sell portable tv's on ebay. That they are being bought! I'm starting to think that there are quite a few more people interested in collecting old televisions other than just us.

I've picked up a dozen or twenty Sony pocket TVs over the last 6 months, so I'm somewhat to blame. They're being "dumped" for cheap, sometimes for 99 cents + shipping. Rarely over ten dollars.
A DTV converter box in the basement, feeding a Blonder-Tongue Agile Modulator (AM-60, also in the basement) will broadcast to all of them anywhere in the house without static or ghosting. Five DTV boxes and 5 AM-60's will make all my antique (and newer pocket) TVs work without cables, have a few DTV channels to tune, and without concern of Feb 2009. I live too far in the "sticks" to get cable. Might get satellite someday but I don't watch enough TV to warrant it. Unless just to push TV Land to the old roundies, for "effect". Fortunately a good roundie cuts off the logo in the corner...
