correct me if i am wrong and i probley am. the heater voltage was not 6.3v in stand by and there was no emmission being produced in the standby mode was there. didnt most tv stations leave their transmitters on after going off the air and reduced the power on them. the theory was the cycling of the filiments was harder on the tubes than just lowering the filiments. i seen tons of instant on rca,s and zeniths and i never saw them go down faster seems to me like they always had a better picture than the warm up filiments and the ones around here lasted for years and years. we need to do some research on this. steve

I've seen many Zenith Chromacolor sets from the '70's that placed the full 6.3 volts on the filament at all times. I don't recall seeing a bad CRT in any Zenith with instant on. My cousin had an early '70's RCA XL100 with instant on. The tube was replaced in the late '70's or early '80's and the replacement tube was still strong in the late '90's when the set got tossed.
However, I've seen plenty of instant on sets with fried CRT's. I always blamed this on the instant on feature; but, it could have very well been a lousy tube that would have gone bad anyway. I recently junked a solid state Curtis Mathes instant on set with a totally fried (Westinghouse) CRT. All of the tube sets that I remember with instant on didn't have full voltage on the tubes in stand-by. |

Tis a shame.
I guess it's true that if you snooze you lose.
The doors on that cabinet have a cool look but I wouldn't consider having it without the main feature. I predict they will have that cabinet until they give up and crush it. |

We should all email asking about the TV, and say that we wish we had seen it before they gutted it because it's a rare model that would have been worth thousands.

I wrote him
I told him he was an idiot for destroying the most important thing about the cabinet. I guess such a harsh statement makes me a bad person by the standards here. I'm a baaaaaaad boy!
