ok, well i resoldered a few broken solder joints I found, and unlooped the HV lead. Upon powering up I didnt hear any unusual noises, no snapping or popping, so maybe whatever the last guy did actually fixed the issue, and now no more screen door look to the picture (not sure if the HV lead had any effect but im not complaining. Now theres a problem i didnt notice before, the convergence on the bottom of the screen is way off, I noticed when i had everything apart that there were 4 convergence adjustments, RB top, RB bottom, RB right and RB left. Question is can i just adjust RB bottom to bring it into alignment? Other than that it seems to work as i remember, i fiddeled with the picture adjustments and it looked as good as i remember.

Remember the whole reason why I didnt use it after i got it "looked at" was the odd look to the picture, which is gone now-and i have a sneeky suspition it was the HV lead routing even thow someone said it was low current. Other than re-flow some solder thats the only thing I did. But its better now, just need convergence. Can i use a regular screwdriver to adjust it?

Thnaks guys, im happy that this set may be back in action, and may have very well been fixed for all these years and I just didnt know it.

nothing metal. this is a great set to have. that convergance issue is very easy to deal with. i love twisting on those things. sylvanias had a great circuit for inline convergance. you will get it perfect. just dont use anything metal in those coils. it will give you a false adjustment. it will look good until you pull it out.when you do, it will be out of alignment again. good luck!

Cool, well its on now and looking good, aside from the convergence. Tomorrow after work ill pull the back off and see what i can do (ill grab a few plastic screwdrivers from work). I never really knew how many others here like the picture these Sylvanias produce. I mean, its just awesome. I usually have the color turned down so its not overpowering, and the contrast set kinda low. Everythings well defined, good color definition, no color bleeding, very clean looking picture. Like I said I bought this set for 5 dollars about 9 years ago and fell in love with the picture. Ill keep this thing for as long as I can. Definatly worth it to me to keep it goin.

CamraPhone pic, sorry, you can kinda see the convergence issue with the Adult Swim logo, otherwise its perfect.

ohrhhhh,those sylvanias! when they are right,their right! i used to repair 80% sylvania in the day. very popular make here in columbus. i guess they are all gone. from the d series to the g series, they were once the rulers in picture quality. my zenith has a black matric tube from sylvania. keep yours as long as you can.

You can count on that, when i do the convergence ill post some nudes of the chassis in all her glory. The one thing i was very surprised to see was every transister and IC was socket mounted, and a chart of all the numbers along with orentation (E,C,B) was provided inside, like a tube chart almost. Also listed the CRT numers used and the HV voltage for the tube. Ill post the tube number too just for S&G's.
