I remember a movie that had someone (an old lady) in one of those old wheelchairs. She fell (or was pushed) down a flight of stairs. That is all I remember, I thought it was scary, mid 80's or earlier. Can't remember much more.

Any ideas?
Possibly "Rosematy's Baby"?

Trust me, I hate wheelchair flicks. I have a strong dislike and adversion to them- very unpleasant to me. You may be able to fgure out why.

And no offence taken. I just don't like 'em.

Sorry, I didn't think of that one. Its late and I and am typing form the hip.

I don't think it is Rosemays baby, if someone where to say (type) it I'd probably know it. I believe it was a ghost type of movie, if that helps. I'll leave it alone.

I seen it. Liked Gary "aBusey".

Otherwise, it was a load of crap.

The original Psycho. Which I saw at age 8 when it first came out. (Really was not a movie for kids, but there were no ratings in those days.) I was scared out of my wits, and could barely look at the screen. So for me, that will always be #1.

Anybody else ever see "Sisters" a '73 flick w/Margot Kidder & Charles Durning ? Not too scary per se, just very suspenseful & the score...The Score made it 2X as scary as it would have been otherwise.

1. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
2. Halloween (original)
3. Dawn of the Dead (original)
4. Dawn of the Dead (remake)
5. Blair Witch
6. The Omen (original)
7. Trilogy of Terror (mainly He Who Kills)
8. Burnt Offerings
9. The Shining
10. Alien

Most of these are based on how scared I was the first time I saw them & I saw most of these as a kid. Blair Witch seems to be a love it/hate it movie - I got into it.
Honorable mentions:
Open Water - kind of same deal as Blair Witch
Audition

Not 10 surely, but here are three that you might not have heard of... Just might scare you and she both. In general, these films work by breaking the rules.

Session 9 (almost an entirely male cast - In an unpredictable setting)
May (A creative new take on Shelley's Frankenstein)
Audition (Japanese film) Has the honor(?) of having more people walk out of the theater than any other film in history. This one goes waaay too far.

As a horror movie aficionado, I like these films because there are NO spring loaded cats. They twist the genre, and earn their scares.

I know I'm repeating some, but this is MY list:

Exorcist - ol' scratch scares me, always will
Evil Dead - flying eyeballs
Night of the Living Dead (original) - "Johnny's got the keys"
Demon Seed - creepy and campy
Village of the Damned - George Sanders classes up this low-budget thriller
Halloween (original) - Donald Pleasance is also scary
Dracula (original) - ghoulish and the original "goth"
Body Snatchers (70s version) - classic paranoia and acid-soaked sound
Hellraiser - Pinhead gives me the willies
Rosemary's Baby - again, Satan is scary and John Cassavette's willingness to trade his child to Satan for wordly gain is chilling

Ken

Session 9- I know the director. Good flick. Saw it at it's Boston premiere, only to have a city brown-out end the flick 2/3rds through.

Audition- yeah- not an easy one to watch.

I preferred Suicide Club and Battle Royale.

Hmmmm... I grew up watching "scarlet theatre" type flicks so there is a heavy influence.

The original "Mummy", the scene where the mummy gets up and leave near the beginning of the movie is possibly the scariest of the 1930's. Even if the acting is more than a bit over the top.

The Exorsist.

Alien

From Dusk Till Dawn

the original Frankenstein, acting is waaaaay over the top, but still a great monster.

Frenzy, not really a horror film but good an' scary.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

Wolfen'

Scanners

The Hidden

The Haunting (1963) with Julie Harris, Claire Bloom, Richard Johnson and Russ Tamblyn. Not gross or overtly creepy. In it the hauntings are implied, (suggested if you will) and it makes for a good unsettling movie.
