Antique TV?!

It's a Hitachi CT2649 from........1984! Discrete MTS Stereo (11 ICs on the MTS board!) - and the remote stores in the little tray at the upper right, to the right of the controls.

It's old enough to vote....but not antique.

If someone grabs it and needs the manual (TIFF format), PM me.

Dang man! 50's and 60's?? Did you find those in a mummy tomb??? That stuff is ancient history!

It is sobering to think that any young kid today will probably have never seen a CRT in a store, and if his parents have already switched to flat screen (not unusual these days), he/she may never see one at home, either. The television, as we grew up thinking of it (boxy, etc...) will not be a part of his experience of the world, except as a kind of curiosity he'll run into from time to time, like the old dial telephones. I've met a number of young people, right up into their teens, who (until recently) had never heard of or seen vinyl records or cassettes, either. Once technology passes the "tipping point" and is no longer sold and bought, it tends to disappear pretty quickly from the average person's experience and memory. Now that the U.S. doesn't broadcast in analog (and as over time, the rest of the world follows), that disappearing process will be faster than ever. CRT televisions are in the process of becoming "antiques", all right, even if technically that isn't the appropriate word!

All the more reason why it is good that some people around here are saving some of the old sets!

And further incentive to hang on to my 1964 Space Command...which would really throw the kiddles for a loop since it's not even color.

Hey, so that must have been a pricey set when new! Probably a pain to move it though, which means it probably won't be saved.

minor "this and thats" on something with a multitude of complicated computer chips inside it... i say screw it.

But then again, people had that attitude in the '70s when pitching out their Magnavox, RCA Victor, Electrohome, Fleetwood, etc. colour roundies, and look at how sought after those are these days.


But it might not be as much of a pain in the ass to move as it looks. Some consoles are lighter than you think. The huge ass 27 inch 1985 Sears console we have in our living room was a breeze to move. I also got it for free from this same website. And the inside... it may be a giant ass console, but it has a tiny little chassis... like someone took a 13 incher, stuck it in a huge cabinet and put a giant mega CRT in it. Some people might agree with me on this one, but I think some of these huge consoles should have shelving in the sides. So much wasted space going on there. Maybe put some sort of magnetic shield in there so you can store VHS tapes in it.
I'm 6' tall and 160 Lb, and I bet I can fit inside it, even with all the shit still in it.

Yeah but I bet the MPX decoder circuitry rarely went bad due to the lack of high voltages and high heat levels in that part of the set, unless the PSU crapped out and there was an overvoltage situation. AKA, find out what minor this-and-thats it has....
