I have a 970, and it supports (has IR codes for) direct selection of specific inputs. The proprietary Sony remote that comes with it doesn't have individual buttons, but a universal remote with the appropriate codes will work. I've had a Logitech Harmony remote for many years and it makes things so much easier. Unfortunately, the Harmony is discontinued, but you can find them on eBay.
