Wow these sets were really ahead of thier time. I remember back in 1976 when I was born, all the way to the early 90's we had what I believe to be a ctc-40 something that had rotary tuners in a beautiful oak cabinet with a black top made to look marble like. It developed some out of tolerance resistors or caps in the vertical circuit that caused the vertical to stretch and when I was young I had no idea what to look for of course. My dad junked the set and bought a 32" Trinitron in 1994. That set is still in the family. Older sets sure lasted forever. That RCA plunked away 20 years and that Trinitron still plunks away and has had heavy use. The speakers are shot and the CRT is getting a tad pink and out of focus now.
I bet if the RCA was repaired and kept it would still be working.
