Not all solid state?

Hi everybody,

I have a 1972 RCA CTC-51 Hybrid set. If RCA was making complete solid state models prior to this 1972 version why isn't my model completely solid state? Did they offer different level of models at different prices?

Interesting my set uses a 3A3 when I would have expected a compactron 3AT2.

Best regards,
Matt D

I think you guys got it. After looking at it, it appears to be "Amsterdam". I never noticed the cross on the letter "t" untill I looked at a close up of the photo on the computer here. I thought it was a "b" all this time.
The lady who owned the set just passed away at 68 which is not really old. According to social security death index, she was from ohio. To help reinforce this, there is an Amsterdam Ohio with a mill st. The lady must have been divorced and remarried as her current last name up untill her death was pedigo. The house was pretty clean and she didnt keep much old stuff other than this TV set. I was surprised to see it considering how the rest of the home was furnished. I always try to research who owned the TV's I pick up. Thanks again

That looks a LOT like the set I had to leave in the trash last week. Except mine had a simpler cabinet. It also said "accucolor"... Was this a newer version?

BTW, Here's a picture of somebody I know named "Pedigo" Maybe it was her grandma, lol

Funny, now that you mention it, I can't think of any regular-production CTC-anythings that use any compactrons. They were the brainchild of GE, far as I can tell, but RCA obviously sold them as replacements. The octal HV sockets and 3A3-family types were still churning out so fast they probably couldn't be beat for price, and the costs associated with changing a part that needed no change, I think, made the changeover a non-starter.
