Red smearing on a SONY

Hi folks, maybe someone can confirm my suspicions that my CRT is getting tired

My 13 year old 27" Trinitron XBR will smear red from bright objects if I crank the brightness up too high.

It started doing it a couple years ago if you cranked the picture and brightness up but now it will sometimes do it even at normal levels.

It works great otherwise.

If I recall correctly this is a bad tube but maybe you know another cause?

What's a new tube cost? I plan on getting something new in the next year or so but I might like to keep this set for a bedroom set.
