Tube mounting strap

I'm working on a video to better go over the process of removing cataracts on smaller CRT's but the tube I decided to use for the video does not have a removable mounting strap around it. Instead it's a thick metal band with the mounting points at the corners and crimped where both ends of the band meet. Obviously I'm not cutting it off because then there's no way to reinstall it and all I'm finding regarding them is some reddit post where half the thread is screaming it's part of the implosion safety system and once it comes off the tube immediately becomes a bomb (of course it's reddit, so I don't believe a single word of what they say)
I'm using the halogen lamp and heat gun method to remove the safety glass. Will it be alright to continue with the strap in place or will the thermal stress with the strap in place mean this method is not suggested?
