I was given a 1972 zenith chromacolor portable today.
Hello All, I went out junkin today and at a 2nd hand store i spy a a vintage Zenith chromacolor portable on a correct timeperiod roll a round tv cart, he has a reasonable price of $25 for the whole she-bang. I don't need it nor have the room for it. The owner says that it still works and plugs it in. we see about 30 secs of green tinted static then the pic goes black and there is a burning smell. we unplug it and he says that he doesn't sell dead merchandise and asks me if i want it for parts free. sure i say, i'm sure someone on VK will want parts from it.
So i get it home and wonder what burned inside, i oped it up and look inside the HV cage and i see a thin brown piece on plastic on the side to the HV diode. It has charred tracks on it. I remove it from the tube and plug it in and low and behold the set works, i had to adjust the screens a little. but here are pics. It is a 14dc15 chassis and i found a date of 8/1972 on the inside.
The odd thing is that i used own one of these in 2007 with a slightly different cabinet. Anyone close by want to add this to their collection?
