CRT banding for implosion protection
after several removals of a safety lens (mostly roundie and one rectangle) I finally had one implode (23v rectangle) it was violent to say the least, I was not injured (well one small cut on arm) but it renewed my respect. It was one that I was having problems getting the lens off (it cracked, I did not use a heat gun, the implosion took place early in the morning as I was just checking on it to figure out a way to did out some of the plastic so I could do the wedges over again. Anyway, I think it would be wise (if you want to remove the lens on the bonded type) to install a tension band before starting.
That being said does anyone know anything about banding? type of band, equipment used, how to determine correct tightness? I am not looking to start a rant about danger of CRT's I know that, just looking for expertise on banding technique. I should have put this in rectangle tv, so mods please feel free to put in the correct forum. |
