A new old RCA

There are a few small local towns in the area where I live. The largest town, Woodville, Texas, population about 2500 (I call it Woodpile), is our county seat. There is a locally owned furniture store that's been there for as long as I've been alive. I was in there 3 days ago shopping for a new stove and bed matress. After looking around, I was on my way out the door when something caught my eye.

In a corner was an RCA set in a modern contemporary cabinet (best way I can describle it) along side a "black box" TV. I'm guessing the console set was about 15 years old. I asked the lady behind the counter about the set. She said it had been there for years, never sold. I told her to find out what the owner wanted for it.

He called me later, and at first told me he wanted 400 bucks for it. I laughed, then apologized, and said there was no way i was going to pay 400 bucks for an old set that would likely have no warranty. I told him I'd get back to him on it when I came in for my new stove.

Now I understand he likely paid 400 bucks for it... it was likely selling for 600 when it was new. Still, he ain't getting that from me.

So, I want to know what you guys think. What would you consider to be a FAIR price for such an item. Again, it's an RCA 25" console (taller than it is wide) and likely about 15 years old. I will try to find out more as far as the age and chassis number.
