I thought i had it! 58 zenith

In my seemingly never ending efforts at getting full vertical sweep out of my Zenith, I decided to pop the plastic cover off of the yoke that most often is falling apart by now. BAM I found that one of the 560 ohm resistors that are in parallel with each vertical winding was disconnected. After some thought I realized that a couple of years ago I had taken the cover off and disconnected components in attempt to make sure that I did not have open windings. I wish now that I had recorded my readings back then because I now have the schematic that I needed then to compare readings to.

Upon re-connecting the resistor the set achieved about 2" of sweep (on a 24" tube) from the center up. at the very bottom of the raster is a kind of wavy single scan line. The VERT LIN. control seems to have little effect on the raster, however the SIZE control seems to have a lot of effect. I can crank that (size) up and hear the pulses hitting like a small hammer! I am beginning to wonder if the yoke has been the problem the whole time. I had an old yoke tester but I sold it as I have long ago realized that I don't need antique diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot antique equipment. I have a lot of neat vintage Hickok equipment that probably should be in a museum and not on a bench. I love the way the old stuff looks!

Anyway, the saga keeps going with this set. One day it will come to life! I did take the chassis to the college to use their megger that no student even knows the purpose of to load down the VERT OUTPUT transformer and big choke that I found under the chassis. If anyone gets anything out of this info, ideas and tips are always greatly appreciated.
