Hello From Kansas

Some of you may know me from Audio AK, but this is my first venture into older TVs. I was in a thrift yesterday when I spotted a very clean Setchell Carlson. I just couldn't leave it sitting there looking pitiful with the 5 dollar price tag. I brought it home and pulled the back off and darned if it didn't have all the original tubes, and the inside was as clean as the outside. There was very little dust on the tubes even. I checked a few and they were week, so I ordered all NOS tubes for it. It's sand rectified and when I get to about 90v on the variac, it pops the circuit breaker on the TV. I'm hoping maybe a shorted filter cap. The flyback smells just fine, which I guess is a good thing. My Dad was a TV repairman and used to take me around with him to load up the ones that had to come in. I rememeber those Magnavox Theatres. Anyhow, I'll probably start a resto thread and ask lots of questions. I hope I don't wear you guys out before I get the TV running. Thanks for having me, Jay
