Wired vs Wireless TV Remotes

My recent acquisition of a Philco Mystery Control and the thread on the Sentinel remote got me thinking. If there were wireless remotes for radios way back in '39, why were TV remotes in the 50s wired?

Sure, the Mystery is ridiculously big, but were there other reasons like RF interference?
