Mine's amplified and 25 feet off the ground. I lose CBS totally when the trees are in full leaf, and anything else that's more than 15 miles away when there's rain and/or wind.
The CBS affiliate is supposed to be putting a DTV transmitter within 5 miles of my location instead of its present 25miles away(!).
