Majestic 71 Capacitor Bank

A working Majestic 71 that I purchased has seen a previous restoration. It appears the capacitor bank had died and caused the transformer to burn up. They cut the transformer open to repair it and tossed the capacitor bank. They tie wrapped in some polyester caps.

It still smells like burning tar. Actually I kind of like it.

I don't care for the tie-wrapped caps or the 14 gauge THHN wire they used for the cable between the supply and the set. It actually doesn't look to bad, but it's very stiff once you have a bundle.

Since they didn't save the capacitor bank can I decided to make a new one out of galvanized flashing and fish paper. I used high quality polypropylene caps because I don't want to have to open it again.

I'm not sure why it bothers me. You normaly can't see what's in the supply. I just wanted it to look a bit more authentic.

Is this silly? Schatzi doesn't seem to know what to make of it.

John Y.
