Just what everyone wants to read about: Another Funai TV/VCR combo!

OK, I went to the SA to donate a working TV and one of the workers said they had a non-working TV. I soon see that it's one of those damned mid '90's Symphonic (Funai) TV/VCR combinations. They turned it on and it did what many do: turn on for a couple of seconds and then turn off due to a screwed up VCR mechanism. They said I could have it for $5. I didn't want it; but, I bought it anyway to sort of encourage them to save the broken TV's The next one may really be worth my time.

Anyway, I brought this one home, removed the loading belt, and manually set the carriage back to it's "stand-by" position so the TV would stay on. I played it for a while and decided it was good-to-go as far as a TV. After I put it back together and played it a few minutes, the loading motor starts running in different directions and the words "stop" "eject" "stop" "eject" start flashing on the screen. I swear, I can't find what sensor, switch, or whatever controls the loading motor. I disconnected the mode switch and jumped out a couple of connections; but, it still does the same thing. There is a momentary switch soldered on the PC board, under the mechanism; but, I have not figured out what it's purpose is, yet.

Maybe I should just rip out the VCR mechanism and figure out a way to slide a DTV converter in there, like someone else on here did recently.

As some have figured out by now, I'm not good with VCR mechanisms. I can clean heads and change belts; but, that's about it.

BTW, there is an old RCA top loader VCR at the SA. I've been seeing it there for a couple of weeks. I'm going back tomorrow to donate another TV; and, I may just pick it up if the price is right.
