Hey guys, it's me again. Haven't been here for a while. The 1989 JVC that radiotvnut and MRX37 helped me fix a while back is doing well. To this day I watch that set every night. Anyway, it was having trouble with a loud buzzing sound that turned out to be a bad capacitor. Now that that's fixed, the set has worked well except for a few problems:

1) The flyback is really loud, it whines louder and is harsher on your ears than any other flyback I've heard. This seems to stop after the set has been on for 30 minutes to an hour, and only occurs when something bright is shown on the screen. Flyback is a muRata.

2) Screen regulation isn't so great, the image kinda bulges sometimes if something bright appears in the middle of the screen. It's not the tube bleeding. Probably just needs a recap? Will know for sure when I finish recapping (this weekend).

3) The color and brightness are not set up right. Whites don't look washed out, but they seem overly bright. Red is too red, blue and green seem fine. The problem is black - blacks are just too black. White are too bright, and blacks are too black. If someone wearing a black tuxedo is standing in front of a white background, the tuxedo just looks like a black outline - you can't see any detail on it, it's just black. Also, if the whole screen goes white, everything's fine. White doesn't look to bright except for when a white object appears on the screen. Then it looks too white and the flyback sounds really loud.

I was wondering if you guys could help me adjust the set. There are a few potentiometers in there that adjust screen, brightness, red bias, etc. etc. I will crack the set open and give you guys a full list of the adjustments in there tomorrow. I have an RF modulator and a laptop with S-Video out, so I can make the tv show any image necessary for adjustment. I'd really appreciate it if you guys could help, the tube seems like it's being overdriven by those bright whites, the darks are way too dark. Messing with the OSD helps a little but I can't make the set look good using just that.
