Panasonic query

Hi. I wonder if anyone can help me with what might sound like a dumb question. Some Panasonics have the word `Quintrix' on the case, along with a four colour segmented circle (Red, Blue, Green and Yellow). Did these sets use a yellow phosphor as well as red, blue and green?.............. Jim.

I have some of the Quintrix sets but they should just be R,G,B. Looking closely at the phosphor stripe pattern on these tubes however something looks kind of different in the layout of the way the phosphor triads are laid out, like they are staggered rather than in straight stripes.

Panasonic did do something unusual with their inline CRTs, but they were just RGB.

Most manufacturers use continuous vertical stripes of phophor, but if you look closely you'll notice that these stripes are broken up by horizontal cross ties. The is from the shadow mask which has rectangular slots in it instead of continuous vertical slits (like a Trinitron). Since the phospor coating is light in color, it reflects a lot of light which reduces contrast. Panasonic decided to only coat the parts of the screen that get used, instead of the entire vertical stripe. This results in a blacker looking screen. It was a good idea, but they stopped doing this in the late 80's.
