The season finale of Battlestar Galactica ran Friday with a running time of 1:32. I set the VCR for a recording duration of 1:30 and did not capture the final minute or so. The tape went to snow just after the Cylons confronted President Balthar in his quarters and told him not to offer any resistance. The last words it caught were "Anyway, you don't have a choice". What happened next?

He surrendered and the Cylons marched into the settlement in large numbers.

The fall of Balthar. He screwed the human race not once, not twice, but 3 times!! He probably turns to cylons in the next season. There are some serious twists and turns begining to form here. I have a strange feeling those 3 "Cylon advisors" are this series' Lucifer from the old series. I think that in the next season the humans will win over the Cylons for the 3rd time and escape. Balthar will most likely be ousted and will take refuge with the Cylons with the 3 Lucifers as his advisors.

But their still remains the 2 good Cylons - Sharon and Number Six. They are spreading the word that peace must survive between humans and Cylons. What will be there fate? Lucifer from TOS had an evil counterpart that lied, cheated, and was just plain nasty, not unlike some of the human Cylons in the new series. The Lucifers in TOS had part of the reptillians brains adorned in a dome atop their heads as a sign of power. It is also curious to know that their supreme leaders are REPTILLIAN!!

The new twists, obviously are what the writers of the new series have done with the writing. How close will they stay to the original series and how far off will they wander? Who knows. But we do know that at some point the fleet will encounter a few aliens - The Beings of Light:

and the Count Iblis (he refered to himself as the Devil, a Being of Light who fell from grace and is now using his powers for evil):

The original series had the Cylons being created not by humans, but from a reptillian race called the Cylons:

The robotic/human cylons overthrew the reptillian Cylons and became hell-bent on destroying all human life in the galaxy. It is also speculated that Count Iblis helped create the robotic Cylons for the sole purpose of playing his evil game with the human race. Since the new series has the Cylons coming from the humans and not from reptiles, it will be curious to see how they introduce, if at all, the Beings of Light (as they played an intergal part in describing to Starbuck where Earth is, and thus having the fleet find Earth).

So is the section that I missed worth taping when they rebroadcast it tonight? Or did I literally miss only a few anticlimactic seconds that don't add anything?

I saw it up to the point where Baltar has been President for a year. That Lt comes to visit and Baltar has two babes in his office. What was going on? Corruption?

Did they begin to settle New Caprica?

Yep, the whole batch of them moved down to the planet. Ex-pres Roslin returned to teaching school. The fleet stayed in orbit manned by a skeleton crew. A whole fleet of Cylons jumped into orbit just jumped into range out of nowhere and commenced landing. The Colonial fleet was too undermanned to mount a defense so they jumped away to regroup. A delegation of Cylon cyborgs including a six (blondie), eight (Sharon) and some young male variant popped into the president's ofice and told him if nobody resists nobody gets hurt. So (yes I taped it and no, no major information added) he surrenders on behalf of the colonies and a whole batallion of chrome scan-eye centurions marches right through the middle of the colony.

Frack you just gave away the whole plot for the season finale, This could not just be a dream sequence in Baltar's mind planted by the cylons, or he is just on the verge of insanaty as he was always living on the edge.

What became of the nuke he gave to a number 6 on cloud 9?

She set it off, the Cylons detected the signature of the blast thus discovering New Caprica.

Yea, I originally thought this might be a dream sequence, perhaps as a subconcous warning not to settle on the planet, but I don't think so.
Frankly, I was pretty ticked off about this ending. If its not a dream, it means the writers have just about wiped the slate clean and much of the character interactions and complex social structures they have been develouping over the last 3 seasons (or 1 + two 1/2 seasons), are now moot. Not to mention the story archs.
Over a year has gone by, and nothing/noone is the same after living in tents eeking out a living for so long. Some of the gear from Galactica was converted for use on the planet, supplies appear to be low, many of the women (except Starbuck) are pregnant. Now there seems to be bad blood between Apollo and Starbuck. As much as I like long hair, Starbuck looked bad in that wig.
If it wasn't for my wife, I wouldn't bother watching it again. I was not impressed.

Nah! Its a great show. My only regret is the reduced status of the centurions. I miss those metallic voices. But the new ones are lethal whereas the original ones always seemed to be slow and clumsy.

LOL! And the Viper Pilots/Colonial warriors wore NATO ensignias on their tunics. I guess the FX budget was through the roof so they had to cut corners.
