I got the space command 600!

Remember the thread back in October, describing how I missed out on a nice zenith space command console at an estate sale in Berwyn? I was talking to captianmoody and he was asking me when Im going to look into getting this set. I got my act togeher and finally got it Yesterday! I got ahold of the guy who got it for free. He still had it and was sitting in his garage wainting to be gutted. He was telling me he was taking measurements to see if he could fit an LCD set in the cabinet. Like everyone, its all about the cabinet not the TV. For me its both of course so Im glad I got it from him before it was destroyed.
He had so many other projects and didnt have time luckily. He never even took the back off so its not messed with.
Speaking of never having the back off, the back was never taken off untill I got it! This is a 100% original untouched, unserviced TV. The back cover is clean and NO evidence of having the lugs turned to pull the back off.

Well, the set didnt work too good at first. Space command drive motor was seized. That was the first repair. removed the drive motor and oiled it, so that works. The volume stepper relay was stuck from not being used in probably 30 years. Originally, the set had a blank red raster and no sound. Did the usual complete tube test, a good number of tubes had bad grid leakage, and a shorted 6GJ7 was responsible for the blank raster and someone who thought they could fix the TV turned the screen controls and messed up the raster.
Long story short, tubes were replaced, tuner cleaned, a slight touch up of the convergnece and grey scale, purity etc. and this TV works like brand new! Razor sharp almost pefect picture. The remote tunes perfect and stations come in great.

It turned out to be a win win situation. For the length of time I procrasinated, Im very fortunate to get this set in its original condition.

Here's the thread about this set back in October:
