Chinese Cabinet Zenith

Wow, check this out, it looks vintage with the doors shut but it's actually a big screen color projection set! It has a ton of "stuff" in the back.

Anyone know just how old this is?

Very ornate cab! I remember that type of TV though, and I'd be sorely tempted to turn it into something else (audio system cab, bar?) IF that scene on the door would actually fit in with anything else in the house...

That's probably the worst Zenith TV ever, but with the nicest cabinet! I have the manual for it so it is a legitimate factory set, but never saw one in person. I forget the date, but it's early/mid 80s. Curious what that 2x4 is doing in there! Cabinet falling apart? Green CRT looks poor to me. Now THIS is the set that would be OK to turn into a fish tank

But I have to admint it IS rare.

I have to agree with Charles.I've never worked on that cabinet style but I worked on it's contemporaries.About 84-87 they made that chassis.The picture sucked when they were new and the tubes were short lived.Changed lots of CRTs due to module failures and inadequate protection circuits.Would burn dots in the phosphors.The tubes sucked regardless and the green is probably shot.They were a pain to change as they came with a special gel that mounted between the CRT and lense rather than the fluid couplers everyone else was using.The red and blue were angled and you couldn't reuse it.If you messed up installing it it was shot.And it used a primitive convergence circuit compared to other manufacturers.The only one worse was the previous projection chassis by Zenith.Don't get me started on the ones with the retractable screen from that series.Those were best left with the screen up and the feature disabled they had so many problems

I had one of those 80's Zenith projections back when I fixed and sold projection TVs. I agree that it's the worst projection TV ever made (well, the Zeniths from the mid 90's would give it a run for it's money). The convergence circuit is completely passive using coils and wire wound pots. I never could get it to properly converge. The green was also weak on this set.

Oh yes: the Erector (the one with the retracting screen)... Many hours lying on my back with one of those up on blocks trying to get the timing belt set right! I know where two of them are now, and they both are jammed in the "almost up" position. I sold one in mint condition on eBay a few years ago for $9, and I laughed all the way to the bank.
