RCA AU-112N Restoration
I've had this set for quite a number of years, but never got around to restoring it. I figure that since I'm working on the Zenith, I might as well work on this and Hitachi CT13Y6 (Hitachi seem good, but I want to inspect and check the CRT).
The RCA was working when I got it, but it sat for years and when I turned it on, it was dead. I opened it up and found the fuse had blown. I got a replacement and the set fired up no issues were noticed. It ran for a little bit and then I shut it off. Well it's now a few years later and I am determined to clean it up and replace anything needed. I ordered a service manual and it should be here next week. In the meantime, I was hoping if I posted a few pics, someone here might notice something that should be addressed (caps, etc.). Also, does a set like this portable need a large transformer? The reason I ask is I've been told that sets with transformers are not hot and I don't need an isolation transformer. I see a small transformer near the front of the chassis, but it seems a bit small. Or course this being a B&W portable, it probably doesn't need much. See attached pics. I'm thinking those modules removed are audio, IF and horizontal?
