That is not unusual when using a generic transistor like that, you often have to re-arrange the pins on the new one to get it to match up.

To arrange the pins to be right all I had to do was turn the transistor around they were just opposite

I’m really not sure because I have a tuning resistor that sends variable negative 33volts to ground and I think it’s out of tolerance pushing voltages against a negative has got to be hard on the resistor so I have to look into it. And can slip plate be used as a resistor but how to vary resistance from one end to the other.
